Shiba shed light on Murata Zoroku (Omura Masujiro), Akiyama brothers, Saigo & Okubo and Sakamoto Ryoma by describing "Kashin", "Saka no ueno Kumo", "Tobu ga Gotoku" and "Ryoma ga Yuku" to get the answer to his question "Why the Japanese had become so stupid after having accomplished the Meiji Revolution" when he held in his 22 years old facing the Japan's defeat.

Tekijuku was established by Ogata Koan, a medical doctor, in 1838. The end of Edo period needed Dutch scholars who could access to and understand Western knowledge. This school turned out Murata Zoroku, Hukuzawa Yukichi, Hashimoto Sanai, and Otori Keisuke, etc., who revolved the period toward Meiji.
